Excel Construction of Florida Volunteers to Decorate Historic Stranahan House Museum for the Holidays

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Historic Stranahan House Museum in Fort Lauderdale. The team from Excel Construction of Florida volunteered recently to help deck the halls and the walls with spectacular Victorian-era décor in time for the Victorian Christmas Tours in December.

“We had a great time helping to decorate this South Florida landmark,” said Eric Wolf, president of Excel Construction of Florida. “Giving back to the company is important to our company, and we love that we can preserve some of South Florida’s history.”

During the holidays, the oldest house in Fort Lauderdale and the epicenter of Broward County’s long and fascinating history is transformed to capture the grandeur and glamour of a traditional Victorian Christmas. During tours in December, costumed tour guides in fabulous gowns and waistcoats narrate the origins of many holiday traditions and demonstrate how pioneers celebrated Christmas as they take guests on a whimsical journey of Christmas past.

“We are so appreciative of Eric and his team for volunteering this year,” said Stranahan House Executive Director Jennifer Belt. “With their help, we had Stranahan House decorated in record time.”

Both self-guided and guided Victorian Christmas Tours are scheduled at Stranahan House. Self-guided tours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, Saturday, Dec. 17 and Thursday, Dec. 22. Guided tours are scheduled for 6, 7 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20 and Friday, Dec. 23.

Tickets for the Victorian Holiday Tours are $20 for members and $25 for non-members and available at https://stranahanhouse.org/events. Advanced registration is required.

About Historic Stranahan House Museum

The Stranahan House was built in 1901 when Broward County was no more than a bleak southern frontier supposedly unsuited for human habitation. The existing residents were the Seminoles who traveled down the New River to Frank Stranahan’s trading post to do business. Over the years, as Fort Lauderdale grew and developed, the house became a post office, boarding house, restaurant, and home to the “Founding Father” and “First Lady” of Fort Lauderdale – Ivy and Frank Stranahan.
